Donna Brazile’s ‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Politics’ SoCal Panel Moderated by Hill Harper

*Over the weekend, Donna Brazile, Yolanda Caraway, Leah Daughtry and Minyon Moore held an intimate discussion for their new book, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Politics.

The event was held at a private residence in Woodland Hills, ca. and was hosted by AT&T assistant Vice President Tanya Lombard and Creative Artist Agency exec Alex Avant. The panel discussion was moderated by actor and author Hill Harper. Some of the names in attendance included actress Bianca Lawson (Queen Sugar,) NBA Hall of Famer and NBA-TV analyst Isaiah Thomas and the “Godfather of Black Music,” music industry veteran Clarence Avant.

For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Politics is a view of the last 30 years of American politics from the viewpoint of four black women who worked behind the scenes and developed friendship while working in public service.

For most of the women, their story begins with Jesse Jackson’s first campaign for president in 1984. From there, their careers in politics included working on the presidential campaigns of Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Donna Brazile is a political strategist, campaign manager, political analyst, and author. She also served as the interim chairperson for the Democratic National Committee

Yolanda Caraway served as deputy assistant political director for the Mondale/Ferraro ’84 General Election; director of the DNC’s Fairness Commission (1985); chief of staff of the National Rainbow Coalition, the 1988 Jesse Jackson for President Campaign and deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee under Chairman Paul G. Kirk.

Leah D. Daughtry served as CEO of the 2016 and 2008 Democratic National Convention Committees, and the chief of staff to Howard Dean, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Minyon Moore is the founder of Women Building for the Future, and heads Dewey Square Group’s state and local practice. Before that, She was the chief operating officer of the DNC and assistant to the President of the United States, director of the White House office of Public Liason, and director of White House political affairs under President Bill Clinton.

The discussion – which included an audience Q&A – covered dealing on life after Hillary Clinton’s 2016 loss, the threads between Jessie Jackson’s 84 campaign to Barak Obama’s election in 2008, and the importance of the black women’s vote to the political landscape.

The book is filled with personal stories that bring to life heroic figures we all know and introduces you to some individuals of those who’ve worked diligently behind the scenes but are known to the general public.
