*The name “Yeezy” may soon refer to more than just Kanye West’s clothing brand.
A Chinese clothing company has filed to legally trademark the phrase “Yeezy Boost” after the Yeezy name surprisingly became available last year, TMZ reported. Kanye’s Yeezy brand uses the specific term “Yeezy Boost” to refer to a style of running shoes that the company produces via collaboration with Adidas.
Something happened in 2017 that ended Kanye’s West’s “Yeezy” trademark for all items other than shoes. This means the trademark remains in tact for Yeezy footwear — which he’s had since 2013 — but not for the apparel line.
Once the “Yeezy” name became available, Fujian Baby Network Technology Co. submitted documents in an effort to trademark the name.
West’s team was then shut down by the trademark office when it attempted to trademark the name for clothing again, according to TMZ.
The trademark drama emerges days after West’s Yeezy brand was sued by the hunting and outdoor clothing conglomerate Jordan Outdoor Enterprises, which claims Yeezy ripped off camouflage designs, according to TMZ.
