*Regina King has signed on to headline “Seven Seconds,” a racial crime drama set up at Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series, which comes from “The Killing” creator Veena Sud, follows the tensions that have escalated between African American citizens and white police officers in Jersey City, after a teen black boy is critically injured by a cop.
King will play Latrice Butler, a devout churchgoer and proud wife and mother. After she and her family move out of the projects and become first-time homeowners, Latrice is shaken to her core when she learns that her 15-year-old son, Brenton, has been in an incident. Suddenly aware that there’s more to Brenton than she and her husband were aware of, Latrice is rocked by the power of her anger at her son’s predicament, an anger that will change her life, her relationship with her husband and more.
King joins a cast that includes David Lyons, Michael Mosley, Russell Hornsby and Beau Knapp.
Sud will serve as showrunner on “Seven Seconds,” which will launch in 2017 with a 10-episode first season.
