*Dang, another basketball great has gone on to the big hoop in the sky
It was just two weeks ago that Darryl “Chocolate Thunder” Dawkins passed away at 58. On Sunday news arrived that NBA legend Moses Malone has died at 60.
According to TMZ Sports, Malone, also known by his nickname, “Chairman of the Boards,” was found unresponsive, not breathing, Sunday morning in his hotel room, according to Norfolk, Virginia police. Paramedics tried reviving him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called Malone “one of the most dominant centers to every play the game” and one of the best players in history.
“Even more than his prodigious talent, we will miss his friendship, his generosity, his exuberant personality, and the extraordinary work ethic that he brought to the game throughout his 21-year pro career,” Silver said.

Over Malone’s 19 year NBA career, he was a 13-time All-Star and a 3-time MVP — widely considered one of the best centers in NBA history.

A three-time NBA MVP and a member of the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and ABA All-Time Team, Malone was the most successful prep-to-pro player of his era, going straight from Petersburg (Virginia) High to a 21-year career in professional basketball. By the time Malone retired after 19 seasons in the NBA he was the last former ABA player active and held numerous distinctions in both leagues, including a championship ring and NBA finals MVP trophy won with the 1983 Philadelphia 76ers. He was nicknamed “Chairman of the Boards” and “Big Mo.”[1]
Malone was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001.
Cause of death has not been disclosed, but authorities say there was no sign of foul play.
