*Taylor Swift ditched Spotify, protesting its free services, to join the music streaming service, Tidal, owned by rap mogul Jay-Z, according to The Verge.
Jay spent $56 million to purchase the Swedish tech company Aspiro. It services are available in dozens of countries, but it only has 500,000 subscribers, 17,000 of which are on Tidal.
Spotify has 60 million active users and 15 million paid subscribers. Nevertheless, she left because Tidal provides extremely high quality music and is only available to subscribers willing to pay $20 a month.
She might have pulled her tracks off of Spotify, but it’s still available on Rhapsody and Beats. Also, she’s not giving Tidal her newest album, “1989.”
No word yet on what Jay is planning to do with Tidal in such a crowded market of streaming services, but it’s the part in the music industry still growing.
