*Former television judge Joe Brown is again a free man.
The Commercial Appeal reports Brown was sprung from the Shelby County Jail Tuesday morning after serving a five-day jail sentence for contempt of court. He turned himself in last Thursday.
Brown, a former Memphis judge, was charged with contempt after an outburst in Juvenile Court in March 2014. Magistrate Judge Harold Horne sentenced Brown to five days in jail following a verbal exchange in which Brown called the Juvenile Court a “sorry operation” and challenged Horne’s authority.
In a ruling issued Aug. 14, the Tennessee Supreme Court refused to allow Brown to appeal a Court of Appeals decision that had upheld the jail sentence.
