*WhatsApp is enhancing the user experience with new features to make chats, calls, and channel interactions smoother and more efficient.
One standout addition is a real-time activity indicator in group chats. Users can now see how many members are currently online, giving a better sense of who’s available to talk. Group notification settings have also been refined — users can now filter alerts to only get pinged for mentions, replies, or messages from selected contacts using a new “Highlights” mode.
iPhone users are getting several exclusive perks. For starters, there’s a new tool to scan and send documents directly through the app. Per the company’s blog post, simply select ‘Scan document’ from the attachment tray and follow the steps to scan, crop, and save the document. With the latest iOS update, Apple users can also set WhatsApp as their default calling and messaging app, and they’ll benefit from pinch-to-zoom functionality during video calls. The app now features improved bandwidth management and higher-quality streams, which should cut down on glitches like freezing and dropped connections.
The update also brings more flexibility to organizing events. Beyond group chats, users can now schedule events in one-on-one conversations. New RSVP options like “maybe,” the ability to bring a guest, define end times, and pin events for quick access have all been added.
WhatsApp is also bringing new tools to Channels, making them more interactive and accessible. Channel admins can now post short video notes up to 60 seconds long, and voice messages automatically generate text transcripts for easy reading on the go. Additionally, channels can now be shared more easily through unique QR codes, helping admins expand their reach.
Lastly, users can add participants to a private call directly from the chat window, streamlining spontaneous conversations.
These features are rolling out gradually and signal WhatsApp’s commitment to refining communication tools across its platform. The updates continue the platform’s push to stay competitive with rivals like Telegram and Discord.
