*The hosts of ABC’s “The View” have been under pressure to reduce their criticism of President Donald Trump, creating tension on set, according to insiders.
Morale among staff has also declined due to recent layoffs and unpopular cost-cutting decisions, The New York Post reports. The tension reportedly intensified after executive producer Brian Teta advised the co-hosts to ease up on Trump-related commentary ahead of his inauguration. This directive followed a problematic incident in November when the show had to issue multiple legal disclaimers during a segment about Trump’s cabinet nominees.
“No one holds back their opinions on ‘The View,’” a source told The Post. “It’s a place for dynamic conversations from diverse points of view. That’s what makes it so popular.”
Staff are reportedly unsettled following the recent layoffs of at least nine employees, including senior producers Jamie Hammer and Audrey Jones. The job cuts, which were part of Disney’s broader cost-saving measures in October, have added to tensions behind the scenes.
“People were shocked that he’d fire such experienced, well-respected producers,” the source said. “Morale is low.”
The source said “Everybody is waiting for the other shoe to drop,” adding, “There’s a lot of anxiety even though they just went through layoffs.”
Meanwhile, Tamron Hall and her staff are said to be sparring with “The View” team over scheduling issues and sharing a studio and dressing room.
“Tamron Hall thinks she’s Oprah. She is very demanding,” the source told The Post. “She doesn’t realize she’s playing second fiddle to ‘The View.’”
An insider familiar with both productions said: “Kudos to both productions for seamlessly working together to bring our viewers several hours of television each week.”
