Williams credits Morehouse College for providing him stability and support during his formative years. Speaking at the school’s 37th Annual “A Candle in the Dark” Gala, where he received the Bennie Trailblazer Award, he announced his pledge to donate his salary to his alma mater for the next four years, TheWrap reports.
“One thing Morehouse gave me that no one else has been able to give me in my entire life is that stability. For four years, Morehouse poured into me, and in return, I would like to donate my entire salary for the next four years back to Morehouse,” Williams said Saturday at the gala.
Williams later shared a clip of his speech on Instagram, highlighting the event’s record $6.8 million fundraising total. He wrote, “For the school that took me in when I needed a home, self esteem, education, brotherhood, mentors, hope and community, I hope to one day be able to give her a return on her investment!”
Per HBCU Buzz, “His generous pledge to Morehouse exemplifies his belief in education’s transformative power and commitment to giving back to the institution that shaped his path,” the outlet writes.
