*To quote the great Morris Day, “America, have you heard?” about the newest viral dance.
It’s not The Bird, as The Time frontman highlighted and demonstrated back in the day, but a new two-step set to a new beat. 11Alive notes the “Boots on the Ground” trending line dance was created by Tre Little, a Newnan, GA choreographer who never planned on his moves touching social media and dance floors in a trending way.
“I heard the song and it just literally like made my feet move,” Little voiced to 11Alive about the tune he spawned his popular dance over, 803Fresh’s hit tune “Boots on the Ground.” “I just love the song. So, we just went to the backyard, did a little 12 take, and I did it and I was just like making it up as I go.”
Looks like making it up was the right move. Little admitted he recorded the video one evening, posting it online, where it initially did not get much attention.

Once the clip took off, it gained traction in a major way, accumulating 100,000 views overnight, and even sparked requests for him to create a tutorial to help others master his viral creation.
Like the Electric Slide, Cha Cha Slide and Wobble before it, the “Boots on the Ground” dance became a sensation across generations, making its way on to community events while landing on the radar of celebrity rug cutters like Michelle Obama, Beyonce, Kamala Harris and Tina Knowles, who have done their own interpretations of it.
“Those are my top, top four who made me feel like, ‘wow.’ Like, if they know it, I did something good. And not just doing it, they’re teaching it! So it made me feel good,” Little said, confirming that it feels wonderful to see people coming together to have fun.

“Just a simple fact that it’s not just for the Black community, it is for everybody to join in together,” he described his dance creation’s universal appeal. “It’s bringing the whole United States — not just the United States — it’s bringing the earth together, and everybody’s just … when we get together, it’s no violence, no chaos. We’re all just dancing and having a good time.”

“Boots on the Ground” is the latest in a string of Southern-based dances that have crossed over to the mainstream. 11Alive noted the “Renegade” dance, one of the first viral dances on TikTok, as an early influencer from its eye-catching choreography after its creator, then 14-year-old Jalaiah Harmon, first uploaded her moves to Instagram on Sept. 25, 2019.
