*Pampers has teamed up with Kevin Hart’s entertainment company, Hartbeat, to launch a nostalgic, 90s-sitcom-inspired content series starring Tisha Campbell.
The series promotes Diapers Stash, a unique diaper fund allowing friends and family to contribute, helping parents stock up on diapers and wipes whenever needed. With Hartbeat’s signature humor and Campbell’s comedic flair, the campaign aims to engage families while showcasing the convenience and community support of Pampers’ Diapers Stash initiative.
In my exclusive conversation with the beloved actress, we discussed her involvement in the Pampers Diapers Stash initiative and her excitement about bringing humor and nostalgia to the campaign. Tisha shared her thoughts on the importance of community support for parents and how the 90s-sitcom-inspired series captures the spirit of fun while promoting an essential cause. She also reflected on the personal significance of the initiative, drawing from her own experiences as a mother.
Campbell said she got involved with the Pampers campaign because her longtime friend, director Etienne Maurice, asked her to collaborate with him.
“It was my first time working with him and I’ve known Etienne since he was in Pampers. I used to hold him in my arms and to go from him being in Pampers to him directing a Pampers…,” she explained. “He called me and he was like, ‘Auntie, I need you.’ And if you don’t know, Etienne Maurice also happens to be the son of Sheryl Lee Ralph. So we go way, way, way, way, way back before he was born. So when he called and said, ‘Auntie, I need you, this is what we’re doing… and I’m directing,’… and I was like, say less.”
Campbell noted that she used Pampers “when my kids were babies.”
“I love the idea of bringing back the nineties and then getting out the message of gift-giving and the diaper fund was a different way of doing it,” she said of the new Pampers collaboration. Watch Tisha in the funny skit via the YouTube clip above.
You’ve been a part of iconic sitcoms from the nineties. How did it feel to bring back that nostalgic vibe for this campaign?
TC: We had a blast. It was Lauren Shanice, Tristan Mack Wild, and Jasmine Robinson. It was nice to come in and with younger people. I think it was really smart of Pampers to do this.
Talk about the storyline and the character you portray. Is this campaign a multi-part series?
We did a series of scenes. I’m playing the grandmother… a young cute grandmother who wants to gift her kids. In my day, we didn’t have these opportunities that support parents in this way. The thing that I loved about Pampers diaper stash is that when I was younger and I had kids, my kids were over 10 pounds when they were born. I was gifted a bunch of newborn diapers and I couldn’t use them. So they piled up, you have all these things piled up in your living room and your closet and you got to give them away.
Well, you don’t have to do this with this particular diaper fund. You can contribute and you have these new parents, and as a new parent, you don’t know what’s coming at you. There’s no manual. This just takes the anxiety off a little bit that you have your whole village, your family, and your friends contributing.
It goes from newborns to size eight and then into potty training. So you can change the sizes as the baby grows without piling up a whole bunch of Pampers that you can’t use. It gives everybody an opportunity to support the parents throughout the first couple of years of the baby’s life.
It’s not common to see actresses, once they reach a certain age, embrace the grandmother role. What was it like for you to play a grandma for the first time at this stage in your career?
I love being my age. My 55 isn’t my mother’s 55 nor was it my grandmother’s 55. We are much younger and more health conscious. So I didn’t have to shy away from it. Even though my kids are young, I have a 14-year-old and a 22-year-old, but my mom was a young mom and she was a young grandmother as well.
Your comedic timing is legendary. How did you bring your signature sense of humor to this campaign?
The writers were amazing and Etienne was amazing. It was really easy for me to come in. I think I put a lot of pressure on myself because it was Etienne, but nobody could tell, I was like, I just have to do well for my baby.
What do you hope young parents and new parents take away from this campaign?
Be about your village. It does take a village to raise a child. You have to embrace that because I know when I was growing up, when I was having my kids and I was a new mom, I’m from generation X, and those baby boomers were like, figure it out. You won’t figure it out, but it’s okay to have a village that can contribute, that can gift, that can completely support you. Don’t be afraid to lean on your village, whoever they are, be they family, friend, teacher, mentor, whoever it is. Don’t be afraid to ask.
Lastly, earlier this year, you reunited with the cast of “Martin” at the Emmys. What emotions did that moment stir in you?
Oh my gosh. Whenever we’re all together, we go right back to 1992. We crack jokes and we laugh. It was really fun, but I think more so than anything, I love the fact that that was our first time being invited to the Emmys as a cast and being up there with all of those other iconic shows. It made me appreciate what we did because at the time, we were just trying to feed our family. We weren’t thinking about anything else, but being funny and feeding our families. We weren’t thinking about how this would be like the Brady Bunch or I Love Lucy and be in syndication forever, like those kinds of iconic shows. We didn’t know that that would happen. So it was another one of those full-circle moments for me that was really joyful.
