*Maggie Gyllenhaal returns to the director’s chair with “The Bride,” a bold reimagining of the Frankenstein legend, showcased in a newly released teaser trailer from Warner Bros. Pictures.
The movie draws inspiration from Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel “Frankenstein” and James Whale’s 1935 horror film “Bride of Frankenstein.” Jessie Buckley stars as the Bride, with Christian Bale playing Frankenstein’s monster. Per Variety, here’s the official synopsis: “A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”

The movie’s star-studded ensemble includes Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, Julianne Hough, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Maggie Gyllenhaal posted first-look photos on Instagram with the caption: “Meet The Bride & Frank.” This is her second feature as a director following “The Lost Daughter,” which earned three Academy Award nominations.
