*A new round of Social Security checks, some reaching up to $5,108, will be sent out this Wednesday, April 16, to beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of any month. These payments represent the second wave of April’s scheduled distributions, which are spaced throughout the month based on recipients’ birth dates. One more payment date remains on April 23 for those born between the 21st and 31st.
As Newsweek reports, the Social Security Administration (SSA) supports around 70 million Americans through retirement, survivor, and disability benefits, delivered monthly. Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which helps low-income individuals who are elderly, blind, or disabled, is usually distributed at the start of the month.
The amount of Social Security benefits varies by retirement age. In 2025, someone retiring at age 67, considered full retirement age, can collect up to $4,018 monthly. Retiring earlier at 62 leads to a reduced benefit of $2,831, while postponing retirement until 70 increases the maximum benefit to $5,108. The maximum SSI benefit is $967 per month for a single recipient, and $1,450 for eligible couples.
If a payment doesn’t arrive as expected, recipients are advised to wait three business days before contacting the SSA.

Starting April 14, the SSA will enhance its telephone claim process with new anti-fraud measures.
“Beginning April 14, 2025, SSA will allow individuals to complete all claim types via telephone, supported by new anti-fraud capabilities designed to protect beneficiaries and streamline the customer experience,” the agency stated.
“We are modernizing how we serve the public—enhancing both security and accessibility,” said acting commissioner Leland Dudek. “These updates improve our ability to detect and prevent fraud while providing more flexible options for people to access their benefits.”
