*Samsung is urging Galaxy users to enable new anti-theft features in One UI 7 to combat the global surge in phone theft.
Initially launched with the Galaxy S25 series in February, these security enhancements are now rolling out to more devices, including the Galaxy S24, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, and older flagship models. The updates aim to keep user data secure, even in high-risk theft scenarios.
In 2024, the Samsung Newsroom posted: One UI 7 is the next step in Samsung’s commitment to privacy on AI, introducing advanced security features to ensure complete protection in the era of AI. The official One UI 7 release will commence with upcoming Galaxy S series devices, featuring additional AI capabilities including enhanced, hardware-dependent on-device AI functions, starting from the first quarter of 2025. In line with Samsung’s commitment to extend its OS upgrade policy, the update will gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices.
The Theft Protection suite strengthens Android’s standard safeguards with advanced tools like Theft Detection Lock, which uses machine learning to detect suspicious movements and instantly locks the device. Offline Device Lock secures the phone when disconnected from a network, while Remote Lock allows users to block a stolen device using their phone number and quick verification.
New anti-robbery features, such as Identity Check, add robust protection in unfamiliar locations by requiring biometric authentication for sensitive settings changes. The Security Delay feature imposes a one-hour wait for biometric reset attempts, giving users time to lock their device remotely.
“These features respond automatically and intelligently to suspicious activity,” Samsung noted, emphasizing user control in critical moments.
The expanded rollout will bring these protections to additional Galaxy smartphones throughout the year. Samsung’s focus on smarter security reflects its commitment to safeguarding personal data against evolving theft tactics.
