When life is reduced to just two choices!
*Which is the lesser of two evils – to stand on the sidelines and not get involved because you feel your efforts won’t make a difference, or to jump in if only to make the slightest ripple for positive change in our society? If there is an evil in both apathy and right action that is within our power to do, wisdom tells us that it is better to choose the lesser of the two. There will come a day when we can only wish we had the opportunity again to make a difference, so why not now?
As we commemorate again the anniversary of the tragedy of 911, I am reminded of those whose lives were reduced to just two choices. Remember the images of those who jumped to their deaths to escape the doomed twin towers? For certain, at that time, they were not thinking about the “evils” of health care reform, or any of the other hot topics of the day.

I’m sure they would have given anything just to have the assurance of the basic gift of life, but they had only two choices: Stay trapped and die in those hellish buildings, or jump to perhaps get just one last breath of fresh air. I believe those who jumped chose the lesser of the two evils.
In remembrance of all those who lost their lives at the hands of terrorists on that tragic day, September 11, 2001, let us choose wisely in the challenges that are before us today.
As those victims were all in it together, so are we as a whole “united” nation, and it’s up to each one of us to make the most of what we have without malice and vengeance.
Here’s a poem I wrote:

TWO CHOICES
I heard the roaring of the plane
so close I held my breath
then an explosive crash announced
the arrival of death.
The tremendous boom, the crunch, the grind
drowned out my desperate scream
great fireballs, heat so intense
I prayed it was a dream.
Fear took control – what shall I do
perish in flames or flee
I paced and cried; I cried and paced
time running out on me.
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
so far above the ground
my last wish for my loved ones was
that my remains be found.
I jumped into Eternity
Hell blazing at my heels
I pleaded; God have mercy…
knowing my fate was sealed.
