*A Change.org petition demanding “Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad” has gathered over 91,000 signatures since Christmas, driven by MAGA politics and Beyoncé fan anger. The collision of stan culture and immigration policy has created an unusual flashpoint.
Minaj shocked audiences at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest by praising Trump and Vice President JD Vance, marking a dramatic shift from her previous criticism of Trump’s family separation policies. The online backlash was swift among fans and critics alike, with many taking to social media to vent their frustration at what they saw as a political betrayal. Part of that reaction has taken the form of a “Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad” petition, which accuses her of “spiraling out of control” and points to her husband Kenneth Petty’s criminal history and alleged misconduct toward Jay‑Z and Beyoncé as reasons she should be removed from the United States.
Born Onika Tanya Maraj in Trinidad, Minaj moved to New York as a child and has stated she holds a green card but is not a U.S. citizen. NPR writer Leah Donnella argues these calls to deport the hip-hop star reveal troubling contradictions when examined alongside another recent event: an ICE officer’s fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. Federal authorities claim self-defense, alleging Good attempted to drive into agents, while state and local officials dispute this account.
Minneapolis Mayor characterized the incident as “an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed.”

Donnella contends that the Good and Nicki Minaj stories “illustrate the contradictions that come up when people try to cherry pick applications of the law.”
The writer added, “The signers of the Nicki Minaj deportation petitions seem to be deeply offended by her embrace of the Trump administration. (“If [Minaj] believes in supporting the agenda that all illegal immigrants should be deported no matter what they bring to this beautiful country then what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Good riddance homophobic Nicki,” one petitioner commented.) But in calling for her deportation, they are tacitly accepting a key bit of MAGA logic — that a person’s political ideology can and should be grounds for their removal.”
Donnella invokes Audre Lorde’s principle that “the master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house,” suggesting that weaponizing immigration enforcement against Minaj, however satisfying, ultimately strengthens the system rather than dismantling it.
