*California Gov. Gavin Newsom has expressed support for Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass as she prepares for a reelection campaign.
According to USA Today, during a March 2 interview on “Good Luck America,” Newsom said he “broadly” supports Bass’ bid for another term. Speaking about their professional relationship, the governor noted their history of working together. “We have a great collaborative relationship,” Newsom said.
He also spoke positively about the mayor’s leadership, saying Bass has a “remarkable capacity to do good things.” However, Newsom acknowledged that the two officials have not always aligned on policy decisions, particularly when it comes to housing and homelessness.

Despite their policy differences, Newsom said he and Bass continue to work together on major issues, including recovery from the Palisades and Eaton fires. “… those are areas where we’ll work those things out,” he said.
Meanwhile, a recent Emerson College/Inside California Politics survey of 1,000 registered voters, conducted March 7–9, shows that most voters in the upcoming June primary remain undecided, with 50.9% not yet making a choice, per KTLA via Yahoo. Bass enters the race with 19.5% support. Reality TV star Spencer Pratt follows at 10.2%, Councilmember Nithya Raman at 9.3%, entrepreneur Adam Miller at 4.2%, and housing advocate Rae Huang at 2.9%.
The poll also found that Bass has a 24% job approval rating, while 47% of voters disapprove of her performance. Among issues, the economy tops the list at 37%, followed by housing affordability (22%), threats to democracy (11%), immigration (8%), and healthcare (7%).
Los Angeles voters will head to the polls on June 2 to choose their next mayor.
