*California Governor Gavin Newsom took to X with a profanity-laced response after facing accusations of racism tied to remarks he made during a recent appearance in Atlanta.
The controversy erupted after Newsom, who was promoting his memoir “Young Man in a Hurry” alongside Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, attempted to relate to the predominantly Black audience by referencing his low SAT score.
“I’m not trying to impress you, I’m just trying to impress upon you, ‘I’m like you. I’m not better than you.’ I’m a 960 SAT guy,” Newsom said during the Sunday night event. He added, “And I’m not trying to offend anyone. I’m not trying to act all there if you got 940 … You’ve never seen me read a speech because I cannot read a speech.”

Rather than walk back his remarks, Newsom went on the offensive online, pointing to a video posted on Trump’s Truth Social account depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. “You didn’t give a s–t about the President of the United States of America posting an ape video of President [Barack] Obama or calling African nations s—holes — but you’re going to call me racist for talking about my lifelong struggle with dyslexia?”Newsom wrote. “Spare me your fake f–ing outrage.”
Critics were not swayed. Senator Ted Cruz labeled the governor’s Atlanta remarks “the soft bigotry of low expectations,” while rapper Nicki Minaj sarcastically noted, “His way of bonding with black ppl is to tell them how stupid he is & that he can’t read.”
A resurfaced video added further fuel, showing Newsom telling a white audience that he read a 260-page book in an hour and a half — a sharp contrast to his Atlanta comments.
