*MSNBC announced that it will rebrand as My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW, later this year.
The decision stems from its corporate divorce from NBC Universal, marking a new chapter for the liberal-leaning news network, the Associated Press reports. The rebranding aligns with MSNBC’s efforts to establish a distinct news division separate from NBC News.
As part of the change, the network will also remove NBC’s peacock symbol from its logo. This move reflects a broader strategy to assert its independence following NBC Universal’s decision to spin off several cable networks into a new entity called Versant in November.
The creation of Versant included other networks such as USA, CNBC, E! Entertainment, Oxygen, and the Golf Channel, but MSNBC is the only one undergoing a name change.
“This name further underscores our mission: to serve as your destination for breaking news and thoughtful analysis and remain the home for the perspectives that you’ve relied on for nearly 30 years,” the network said.

“For our viewers who have watched us for decades, it may be hard to imagine this network by any other name. We understand. But our promise to you remains as it always has. You know who we are, and what we do,” the statement continued.
“This was not a decision that was made quickly or without significant debate,” MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler said in a memo to staff.
“During this time of transition, NBC Universal decided that our brand requires a new, separate identity,” she said. “This decision now allows us to set our own course and assert our independence as we continue to build our own modern newsgathering organization.”
MS NOW aims to maintain its appeal to progressive viewers while carving out a unique identity. The network’s programming, driven by its prominent personalities, Rachel Maddow, Ari Melber, and Nicole Wallace, will continue to focus on opinion-driven news coverage.
“Regardless of our name, our commitment to this community remains as strong as it’s ever been and in the months ahead we will unveil new ways to connect with you directly,” MSNBC said. “We will continue to cover the day’s news, ask the questions that matter most, and share how it impacts you, without fear or favor.”
