*Congratulations to Michael B. Jordan. He won a Best Actor Oscar for “Sinners.” He’s riding high. He’s untouchable. And apparently, he’s also now approximately $18 million worth of untouchable.
According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Jordan is leveraging his shiny new statue to demand that exact sum for the upcoming “Miami Vice” reboot at Universal. Because nothing says “artistic integrity” like holding a neon-soaked 1980s reboot hostage for a paycheck that could fund a small university.
The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”), already had Jordan attached opposite Austin Butler as the iconic duo of Tubbs and Crockett. But that was before Oscar night. Yesterday’s price, as they say, ain’t today’s price. And today’s price is apparently $18 million.

Let’s Do the Math
If Jordan gets his $18 million, and Butler—who is no slouch himself—commands somewhere around half that, we’re already pushing $27 million. Add in the persistent rumor that Tom Cruise might saunter in as the villain (because why not), and suddenly Universal is staring down a $50 million cast tab before a single frame of footage has been shot.
For a “Miami Vice” reboot.
Look, we love pastels. We love Crockett’s stubble. But let’s not pretend this is Oppenheimer. It’s a movie about cops in boat shoes.

The Classic Hollywood Power Move
Jordan’s team reportedly advised him to wait until after the Oscars to finalize anything. Smart. Ruthless. Predictable. The man now has a golden statue, and he’s going to use it as a battering ram.
To his credit, Sinners was a monster hit and earned 16 Oscar nominations. That’s a flex. But there’s a fine line between capitalizing on momentum and asking Universal to remortgage its parent company.
Fans are split, naturally. Half are screaming “get that bag.” The other half are wondering if a 2027 release date is optimistic or if this thing is already circling the drain.
“Get the bag, Mike! He has about two years post win where he can demand top pay without challenge. Black Oscar winners get shelved quickly by Hollywood. He should stack money and projects now so if the powers-that-be decide he isn’t the next Denzel he can make moves on his own.”
“If (Oscar loser) TikTok Chlamydia (Timothée Chalamet) can get $25m for heist movie, “High Side,” then MBJ honestly isn’t asking for enough, whether fonts think he can act or not”
Jordan has been coy, calling the project “great” without confirming details. Translation: my people are talking to your people, and they’d better bring a bigger calculator.
So here we are. Michael B. Jordan, Oscar winner, holds the keys to a reboot nobody asked for but everyone will definitely watch. Whether Universal pays up or walks away remains to be seen. But one thing’s certain: the price of Vice just went up.
