*Maurice DuBois has announced the end of his long run at CBS Evening News, confirming that his final broadcast will take place on December 18 after more than two decades with the network.
According to reports, his departure arrives during a period of extensive restructuring at CBS, which has been working to address ratings declines and shifts in leadership. DuBois shared the news on Instagram, writing, “Moving On: December 18th is the day of my last broadcast at CBS News. It has been the Honor of a Lifetime. 21 years altogether, including my time at WCBS-TV in New York City. What a privilege!”
He added, “To be welcomed into your homes night after night, delivering the news / meeting extraordinary people and telling their stories. I’ll leave filled with gratitude, cherished relationships and amazing memories. A couple weeks to go; until then, see you on The CBS Evening News every night at 6:30.”

His exit follows that of co-anchor John Dickerson, who stepped away in October. Network insiders note that two major anchors leaving in close succession underscores how substantial the internal changes have become. Ratings pressure has fueled the overhaul. In late November, the broadcast averaged 4.26 million viewers, compared to NBC Nightly News’ 6.24 million and ABC’s World News Tonight at 8.27 million.
Some observers suggest that a slower editorial pace may be contributing to the program’s struggles. To address these issues, Paramount Skydance has introduced new leadership, including the appointment of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief for the CBS Evening News unit. Weiss has reportedly reached out to high-profile journalists in an effort to build a redefined roster.
As DuBois exits, CBS has selected Tony Dokoupil as the next anchor of CBS Evening News. According to reports, Weiss and CBS President Tom Cibrowski chose him to replace both departing co-anchors, and he is expected to take over at the start of the new year.
