*Residents of LaFrance Square Luxury Apartments in the Edgewood neighborhood of Atlanta are breaking their leases, citing safety concerns and a lack of response from management.
Despite paying over $4,000 a month in rent, tenants say their emails requesting increased security have gone unanswered, Atlanta News First. Among the issues plaguing the complex are a rise in car break-ins and thefts, bullets found in bedrooms, and mold.
“There were bullet holes on the side, up where my bedroom is, where my living room is, where my bathroom is,” said former resident, Diane Egede-Nissen.
Resident Amir Khan pointed out to a local news outlet bullet holes from a recent shooting.

“[Management has] to do their due diligence in protecting their residents, especially when you’re charging them so much money,” he said. “We should feel safe in our own homes. I don’t feel that way.”
Tenants argue that despite unmarked security guards patrolling overnight, it’s not enough.
“When you advertise luxury townhomes, that usually comes with luxury customer service as well. I was promised a gate, that was never given to the residents,” said Samuel Mitchell. “I was promised security cameras, extra lighting, basically no precautionary measures taking place whatsoever.”
Resident Cong Nguyen said “My wife and I feel unsafe around here, so we had to move as soon as possible. Our lives are more important.”
The neighbors have requested a gate, security cameras, better lighting, and more police.
“Let us sleep easy at night,” said Khan. “Nobody is sleeping easy here.”
“When I initially signed the contract, it was a luxury apartment, obviously that has changed,” said Mitchell.
