*Following a controversial decision to reduce the bond for 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, Collin County Judge Angela Tucker is now under heightened security due to threats made against her.
According to TMZ, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that both it and the FBI are investigating the threats, which were reported by court staff and concerned citizens. The threats emerged after Tucker lowered Anthony’s bail from $1 million to $250,000 in a murder case stemming from a high school track meet stabbing. In response, Judge Tucker also made her social media account private. Authorities are also investigating whether any individuals unlawfully disclosed her private information online, which could result in criminal charges.
As we reported earlier, the incident that led to the charges occurred on April 2, 2025, at a UIL District 11-5A track meet in Frisco, Texas. Anthony, a student at Frisco Centennial High School, allegedly stabbed Austin Metcalf, a Frisco Memorial High School student, during an argument over seating under a team tent. Witnesses claim Anthony warned Metcalf not to touch him, and after being pushed or grabbed, reportedly stabbed Metcalf in the chest. Metcalf died from the wound. Anthony fled but was quickly apprehended. He later admitted to the stabbing, saying, “I’m not alleged. I did it,” and cited self-defense.
At the April 14 bond hearing, Anthony’s attorney, Mike Howard, argued that the $1 million bond was excessive, highlighting Anthony’s clean record and strong community ties. His parents also testified to his character, noting he was a team captain in sports with no previous legal troubles. Prosecutors countered that the bond amount was standard for murder cases and referenced a non-criminal school incident from February. Ultimately, Judge Tucker reduced the bond but imposed strict conditions, including house arrest, an ankle monitor, weekly check-ins, and a ban on social media.
Meanwhile, Anthony’s family launched a fundraising campaign on GiveSendGo to help with legal expenses. By April 14, over $415,000 had been raised toward their $500,000 goal. The family maintains that the narrative surrounding Anthony is “false, unjust, and harmful,” and has asked for prayers and public support.
