*Jonathan Majors is moving forward in his career following a misdemeanor assault conviction that cast a shadow over his rising stardom in late 2024.
Majors will star in two upcoming films: “True Threat,” an action feature helmed by Gerard McMurray, and “Merciless,” a revenge thriller directed by Martin Villeneuve. In “True Threat,” Majors will take on the role of Vernon Threat, a Special Forces officer driven by the loss of his son to seek vengeance and justice, The Florida Courier reports. No plot details have been released yet for “Merciless.”
Currently, Majors appears in “Magazine Dreams,” an independent drama that premiered in theaters on March 21 and marks his first release since his legal troubles. The film, directed by Elijah Bynum, follows Killian Maddox, an aspiring bodybuilder grappling with mental illness and social disconnection. As described in the film’s official synopsis:
Killian Maddox lives with his ailing veteran grandfather, obsessively working out between court-mandated therapy appointments and part-time shifts at a grocery store where he harbors a crush on a friendly cashier.
Though Killian’s struggles to read social cues and maintain control of his volatile temper amplify his sense of disconnection amid a hostile world, nothing deters him from his fiercely protected dream of bodybuilding superstardom, not even the doctors who warn that he’s causing permanent damage to his body with his quest.
Originally premiered at Sundance in 2023, “Magazine Dreams” was acquired by Searchlight Pictures before being shelved following Majors’ arrest in March that same year. Briarcliff Entertainment later picked up the rights and released the film nationwide in 815 theaters.
Despite earning only $700,000 in its opening weekend—below its $1 million projection—the film has been critically well received. It currently holds an 80% critic score and 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with Majors’ performance described by reviewers as “powerhouse” and emotionally riveting.
As Majors re-enters the spotlight, the reception to “Magazine Dreams” suggests a continued interest in his work, even as his personal life remains under scrutiny.
