*John Legend surprised fans over the weekend with an Instagram post expressing conditional support for Donald Trump winning the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Grammy-winning singer clarified that his endorsement hinges on Trump fundamentally changing his governing style and treatment of communities both domestically and abroad. In the Saturday post, Legend praised a potential Israel-Gaza peace deal as a positive initial step, but emphasized that the president has significant work ahead.
As reported by TMZ, he specified key conditions: withdrawing the National Guard from U.S. cities and halting ICE operations that target vulnerable communities. The R&B artist also shared that parenthood has influenced his approach to political disagreements, favoring positive reinforcement over constant criticism as a more effective strategy.

While some of Trump’s allies argue that his efforts, such as brokering Middle East deals, already merit the Nobel Peace Prize, Legend countered that substantial additional progress is required. Separately, the White House slammed the Nobel Committee’s decision to award the 2025 prize to Venezuelan pro-democracy activist María Corina Machado instead of Trump, accusing the organization of prioritizing “politics over peace.”
Trump himself has often claimed credit for brokering global peace efforts, including a multi-stage ceasefire agreement in Gaza announced shortly before this year’s Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. Following that deal, he declared, “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS,” as the White House praised him as “the peace president.” Despite such declarations, the Nobel Committee’s rules make it unclear whether Trump’s recent actions would even qualify him for consideration in 2026.
According to the Nobel Committee, the Peace Prize recognizes leaders who promote “arms control and disarmament, peace negotiation, democracy and human rights, and work aimed at creating a better organized and more peaceful world.”
