*Los Angeles welcomed Isata and Sheku Kanneh-Mason to the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which is under the artistic direction of the LA Phil’s Gustavo Dudamel.
The sister and brother duo are a classical delight and are virtuosos on their designated instruments.
For Isata, it is the piano. For Sheku, it is the cello. The two highly gifted musicians are two of a family of seven prolific instrumentalists.
All have left music fans in awe since their first viral video hit the internet in 2015. In a tiny corridor in Nottingham, England, the Kanneh-Masons tackled Monti’s ‘Czardas’ in a manner on par with any veteran philharmonic orchestra. They ranged in age from seven to nineteen at the time. It was awe-inspiring!
In October 2020, the Kanneh-Masons debuted their first album, Carnival, on Decca Classics, earning widespread critical praise. Their success continued in May 2021 when they were honored with the Global Award for Best Classical Artist.
All the children have been part of London’s Royal Academy of Music and its Primary and Junior Academies, except pianist Jeneba, who has advanced to London’s Royal College of Music for her undergraduate studies.
It’s one thing to play an obligatory music lesson without error. It’s another to tackle the most complex classical musical compositions with excellence and smoldering passion. This is the gold standard for the Kanneh-Mason family.
They stunned on “Britain’s Got Talent.” They have won scores of awards and have been featured on numerous television shows and documentaries. Sheku also serenaded attendees at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

It’s not known when the whole family will tour, but Kanneh-Mason fans are currently celebrating Sheku and Isata as a duet.
Their Los Angeles Walt Disney Concert Hall performance evoked immeasurable thrills. Isata elegantly glided across the keyboard up and down the octaves of Mendelssohn, Fauré, and Poulenc.
Sheku effortlessly flowed through Mendelssohn’s Cello Sonata No. 1 in B flat, Poulenc’s Cello Sonata, Allegro Tempo di marcia, Cavatine, Ballabile, and a scintillating composition by Natalie KLOUDA Tor Mordõn.
The recent performance by Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason was generously supported by the Colburn Foundation.
The parents of the Kanneh-Masons are Stuart Mason, a business executive and Dr. Kadiatu Kanneh, a former university lecturer. She is the author of the book “House of Music, Raising the Kanneh-Masons.” For more on this exquisite family visit: The Kanneh-Masons.
