*A federal tax office in Georgia faces a whistleblower complaint after an employee quit and spoke out about rodent conditions so severe that coworkers began sitting on desks.
Sydney Monger worked at the IRS facility on Chamblee Tucker Road for eight months. She told ABC affiliate WSB-TV that a single rodent sighting marked the extent of the problem for most of her tenure. Everything changed after Memorial Day weekend.
“After Memorial Day they just came out the woodwork,” she said. “They were just everywhere. It’s hot, it stank, they’re pooping everywhere. It’s nasty.”
Monger documented what she witnessed and brought it public. The footage she shared captured dead rodents, droppings spread throughout the space, and pest control equipment in multiple areas of the building. She noted that the traps and exterior bait stations could not handle rodents of this size.

Monger described a workplace where rodents moved freely, scrambling across people’s feet and “falling out of ceilings.” Some workers have fallen ill due to the toxic environment. Her decision to leave came down to her children.
“I’m scared to bring something back to my kids, you know?” Monger said. “I got babies, I can’t be playing. There’s already viruses out there.”
The IRS confirmed it had received staff complaints about the facility and said the building’s age was a contributing factor. The agency framed the situation as a manageable challenge while signaling that a response was underway.
“Like any large building in an urban environment, it can face pest-related challenges,” the agency stated. “The IRS is working to investigate and remediate the situation.”
