*Howard University is introducing a new course that uses Cardi B’s career as a lens to examine how culture and business intersect in today’s entertainment landscape.
According to HBCU Buzz, the Fall 2026 class, titled “The Cardi B: Am I The Drama? The Art, Production, Marketing and Cultural Impact,” is offered in partnership with the Warner Music Blavatnik Center for Music Business. Rather than centering on celebrity appeal, the course is structured as a deep dive into the systems that shape modern music success.
Students will analyze branding strategies, media narratives, and audience engagement, using Cardi B’s current rollout as a real-time case study. The approach reflects a shift toward studying active cultural moments instead of relying only on past industry examples.

The curriculum connects multiple disciplines, including marketing, media studies, production, and cultural theory. By examining how attention is generated and sustained, students will explore the mechanics behind virality, fan behavior, and public storytelling. The rollout of “Am I The Drama?” serves as a focal point for understanding how strategic decisions translate into cultural and commercial momentum.
This course builds on Howard’s expanding commitment to hip hop as an academic field. Following the launch of its Hip Hop Studies minor in Spring 2025, the university continues to integrate music, culture, and industry training across programs. The partnership with the Warner Music Blavatnik Center further strengthens that effort by providing mentorship, career preparation, and direct industry exposure.
Instruction will be led by Dr. Msia Kibona Clark and Prof. Pat Parks, who bring a hip hop feminist perspective to the classroom. Their teaching will guide discussions on topics such as misogynoir, respectability politics, and the public scrutiny faced by Black women in entertainment. Cardi B’s career offers a framework for examining how identity, power, and visibility operate in the public sphere.
