*The animatronic nightmares of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza are returning with “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 5, 2025. Fans of the 2023 hit can expect a fresh wave of terror as Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) faces off against even more sinister mechanical mascots.
In the sequel, Mike reunites with police officer Vanessa Shelly (Elizabeth Lail) while his younger sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), somehow reconnects with the haunted animatronics. Horror icon Matthew Lillard reprises his role as William Afton, the twisted founder of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and Vanessa’s serial killer father.
Lillard previously told Entertainment Weekly, “I’m pretty thrilled right now being a part of a new franchise. I’m hoping that we get to do a bunch of these and, if I’m the Voldemort, that means I’ll always be in it!”

Two trailers have already given fans a glimpse of the scares in store. According to the official synopsis, the sequel “begins a blood-chilling new chapter of animatronic terror. Anyone can survive five nights. This time, there will be no second chances.” The story picks up a year after the previous events, as the town celebrates its first-ever Fazfest. When Abby sneaks out to interact with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it sets into motion “a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades,” the synopsis states.
Skeet Ulrich, Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Teo Briones join the sequel in key roles. Notably, Lillard and Ulrich reunite after their 1996 “Scream” collaboration, much to the excitement of horror fans.
For those who want to revisit the original scares, “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is available to stream on Starz or can be rented via Apple TV+ and Prime Video.
