*A legal dispute involving rapper Fat Joe and his former hypeman is growing more contentious as new court filings highlight missed depositions, public accusations and disputes over evidence handling, Los Angeles Magazine reports.
The case stems from a June 2025 lawsuit filed by Terrance Dixon, who accused the artist and Roc Nation of sex trafficking and racketeering. Fat Joe, whose legal name is Joseph Cartagena, has denied the allegations and responded with a $10 million defamation lawsuit against Dixon, attorney Tyrone Blackburn and Blackburn’s law firm.
In his complaint, Fat Joe alleges Dixon invented a series of damaging claims — including accusations of sexual abuse and misconduct involving a minor — after a business relationship deteriorated. The two worked together for more than a decade, and the dispute appears tied to disagreements over compensation and failed business opportunities.

Fat Joe’s legal team also accuses Dixon and Blackburn of attempting to pressure him through threats and public statements. According to the filings, Dixon used social media to post allegations, while Blackburn allegedly issued warnings about escalating the matter to authorities.
Recent proceedings have focused on missed depositions ordered by the court. Attorneys for Fat Joe said both Dixon and Blackburn failed to appear for scheduled sessions in early February despite prior confirmation. During a subsequent hearing, the judge questioned Blackburn’s explanation that medical issues prevented his participation, noting that he was still able to leave on a previously planned 10-day cruise. The depositions have since been rescheduled, and the court signaled that penalties could be considered.
The dispute has also spilled into public commentary now under scrutiny. Among the statements at issue is a remark allegedly from Blackburn’s law firm comparing Fat Joe to Sean “Diddy” Combs, including the phrase “Sean Combs minus the Tusi.” The comment references sex trafficking allegations that have surrounded the disgraced music executive in separate legal matters, while “Tusi” — slang for “pink cocaine” — suggests drugs were not part of the comparison. Additional filings show disagreements over whether confidential materials were improperly disclosed.
Blackburn is seeking to dismiss or challenge the defamation claims, arguing his statements are protected. If the court declines, he has indicated he will pursue an immediate appeal.
