*Drake’s beef with iHeart Media is settled. The Associated Press, via Yahoo News, cited court documents which recently broke news of a settlement reached in the Canadian entertainer’s legal dispute with iHeart, who said it “did nothing wrong.”
At the center was a legal petition Drake filed in November.
Information from the document allege illegal payments iHeartMedia received from Universal Music Group to boost radio airplay for Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning Drake dis track “Not Like Us.”
A court document filed Feb. 27 in Bexar County, highlighted comments from Drake’s attorneys who said the “Nice for What” rapper and iHeartMedia had “reached an amicable resolution of the dispute.” No other information was revealed.
As a result, the dismissal of iHeartMedia from the petition was done “with prejudice,” meaning Drake would not be able to refile the petition against the company, the AP noted.

Although it was tight lipped over the settlement, iHeart released an updated statement on the matter on March 1.
“In exchange for documents that showed iHeart did nothing wrong, Drake agreed to drop his petition. No payments were made — by either one of us,” the statement said.
Disputing iHeart’s statement, a representative for Drake said the company “has not provided a single document as of yet to Drake, let alone any information that showed they did nothing wrong.”
“This back and forth is silly. Drake dropped the petition. We did nothing wrong. End of story,” iHeartMedia fired back in a statement late in the day on March 4.
Fallout from iHeart’s dismissal from the case pushes back an upcoming hearing by UMG’s lawyers to dismiss Drake’s petition. The hearing, which was set for March 12, will now be held March 24, recently filed court records show.

In addition to alleged payments to iHeart, Drake’s petition in Texas dived into the situation further with allegations that UMG knew “Not Like Us” “itself, as well as its accompanying album art and music video, attacked the character of another one of UMG’s most prominent artists, Drake, by falsely accusing him of being a sex offender.”
Drakes legal action against UMG includes the legal petition in Texas as well as a defamation lawsuit he filed in January in federal court in New York City against the record company.
In that case, the 6 God, voices opposition over what he alleges are false allegations of pedophilia made in “Not Like Us.” Lamar is not named in that lawsuit.
On March 4, UMG was dealt a blow when a judge overseeing the defamation lawsuit rejected its request to delay a pretrial hearing and put a pause on discovery. Discovery is , is the exchange of evidence between the two sides, according to the AP, which touched on UMG’s hopes of the delay being granted until a judge could hear its request to dismiss the case.
Drake’s lawyers voiced their approval of the judge’s decision in a statement, saying they were “pleased with the Court’s decision to reject UMG’s continued attempts to stall discovery — another clear sign that UMG cannot run from or bury the truth.”
