*Sean “Diddy” Combs may be looking to an unlikely figure for help during his high-profile criminal case: President Donald Trump.
While the hip-hop mogul’s legal team wages war in a Manhattan courtroom against sweeping federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges, multiple insiders say backchannel efforts are underway to explore the possibility of a presidential pardon from Trump, Vibe reports.
A Diddy insider noted that the music mogul “doesn’t even like Donald Trump” but highlighted his desperation: “He’s willing to do anything to get out of jail. He’s always been this way. He’s always going to do what he has to do to get out of a situation,” the source shared with Rolling Stone.
Preliminary outreach between Combs’ camp and Trump’s associates is said to be ongoing, focused on building lines of communication. Combs and Trump have a shared past. During a 2012 episode of “Celebrity Apprentice,” Trump declared, “I love Diddy… he’s a good friend of mine.” At the time, he defended Combs to contestant Aubrey O’Day, a former Bad Boy Records artist, even as she hinted at personal drama involving the disgraced superstar.
Combs’ federal case entered the trial phase in early May, with prosecutors detailing an elaborate RICO case that paints the music icon as the orchestrator of a years-long sex trafficking ring masked by celebrity and commerce.

He faces five felony counts, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking through force and coercion. Authorities claim that from 2008 onward, Combs oversaw “Freak Offs,” drug-fueled gatherings where women were allegedly manipulated into sex, sometimes on camera.
The stakes are more than criminal. A forfeiture clause in the indictment could wipe out much of Combs’ empire, including liquor brands, his cable network, and Bad Boy Records. To counter that threat, Combs’ defense tapped forfeiture expert Stefan Cassella, who noted RICO’s severe reach: “RICO forfeiture is intended to be very broad.”
Former federal prosecutor James Trusty also flagged the aggressive wording of the government’s asset claims, suggesting the defense will seek to narrow the indictment through a bill of particulars.
Combs has pleaded not guilty, and his attorneys characterize the case as a baseless attempt to seize his wealth. Still, behind the scenes, the search for a political escape hatch may speak louder than any courtroom statement.
