On Wednesday, a Manhattan jury convicted the 55-year-old mogul on one count of transportation to engage in prostitution, a violation of the federal Mann Act, while clearing him of graver charges like sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. The prostitution-related charge carries a potential 20-year sentence, with each of its two counts holding a maximum of 10 years. Combs, arrested in September 2024, remains in custody awaiting sentencing and is expected to appeal.
The trial, spanning six weeks, exposed troubling allegations against Combs, with 34 witnesses, including former partner Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and a woman identified as “Jane,” testifying about years of alleged abuse, coercion, and manipulation. Ventura detailed enduring physical and sexual mistreatment, while another woman identified as “Jane” described a three-year relationship marked by threats and drug-fueled encounters.
Prosecutors accused Combs of orchestrating illicit “freak-offs” or “hotel nights” and using his business network as a criminal enterprise. However, the jury, after two days of heated deliberations and a reported deadlock, found insufficient evidence for the racketeering charge, noting “unpersuadable opinions on both sides.”
As The Sun Chronicle reports, the fallout from the trial and preceding allegations has severely impacted Combs’ once-thriving business portfolio. His fashion brand, Sean John, launched in 1998, has largely vanished from major retailers like Macy’s, with no revival plans in sight. Revolt TV, the hip-hop and culture-focused network he founded in 2013, saw Combs step down and divest entirely. A Hulu reality series deal collapsed, and his Empower Global platform, launched in 2023 to support Black-owned businesses with a $20 million investment, has faltered as brands distanced themselves, citing poor performance and concerns over Combs’ legal troubles.

Additionally, Diageo now owns Ciroc and DeLeon after Combs settled a lawsuit with the spirits giant in 2023. Public honors, including a New York City ceremonial key and an honorary degree from Howard University, have been revoked, and his Harlem charter school severed ties following 2016 surveillance footage showing Combs assaulting Ventura.
Despite these setbacks, Combs’ music catalog remains a stronghold. Bad Boy Records remains operational, and Combs’ music continues to be available on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
Meanwhile, multiple pending lawsuits from alleged victims threaten Combs’ fortune. Most recently, he was hit with a new $10 million lawsuit from Edmond Laurent, a former model, actor, and exotic dancer known as “Islander.” Variety reports that Laurent accuses Combs and unnamed individuals of sexual assault and battery stemming from alleged incidents in the late 2000s.
As the father of seven navigates sentencing and an appeal, the future of his business empire hangs in the balance, with Bad Boy Records as its last major pillar. Federal prosecutors may seek asset forfeiture for properties tied to Diddy’s crimes, though specifics remain unclear.
