*Comedian Sinbad may be down, but according to his family, he is not out. Referencing comments from the family, Black News reports the funnyman is making progress as he continues on the path to recovery from a stroke he suffered 5 years ago.
“He continues to receive therapy, fighting for every inch,” Sinbad’s family shared in a statement. “Limbs that were said to be ‘dead’ are coming alive and he’s taking the steps necessary to learn to walk again.
The family’s update on Sinbad comes close to five years after the former “A Different World” fixture suffered an ischemic stroke In October 2020. The stroke came from a blood clot that traveled from his heart to his brain.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Sinbad was rushed into surgery that night. Doctors performed a thrombectomy to remove the clot and restore normal blood flow to the brain. Although he was talking and moving with some weakness, Sinbad’s prognosis looked very promising after his surgery.
But things changed the next day with another blood clot forming that was half the size of the first one, Black News noted, adding that Sinbad successfully underwent the same surgery he previously had.

Still, the success did not come without a price. Sinbad was transferred to another hospital in Los Angeles. It was there that doctors revealed that his brain had begun to swell. As a result, the medics performed a craniotomy to relieve the pressure and reduce the swelling.
As the surgery went on, the doctors discovered a bleed. Hours passed before Sinbad’s family knew of Sinbad’s return to the Neuro-ICU. It was there that he was placed in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator.
“Our hearts were devastated,” the family stated as it weighed in on the situation.
Almost nine months later, Sinbad reportedly came home from the hospital in July 2021.
Although Sinbad’s recovery is moving forward, the journey remains difficult and unclear for the family, with survival odds coming in at approximately 30%.
Still, recent photos confirm the “Jingle All the Way” star is beating the odds with his recovery. But the fact remains. Medial situations are not cheap.
With that reality, the family is taking to social media to request help in paying for Sinbad’s medical expenses.
“[We believe] without exception, Sinbad is here because of the multitude of prayers from all who know and love him,” the family voiced. “We are eternally grateful. Every outpouring of love and the memories of how he has touched all of you have not gone unheard, unseen, or unfelt. Thank you. You have lifted his spirits along the way and inspired the entire family.”
