Allegations Regarding Carson High School Staff Member
According to statements from students involved in the incident, the confrontation began during lunch when several students were gathered playing dice on campus.
Students claim that Coach Mafoe, 37, approached the group and demanded they immediately hand over the dice. When the dice were not surrendered immediately, students say the interaction became heated.
Several students allege that Mafoe began shouting and using profanity during the exchange, which escalated the situation rather than calming it.
Students further claim that when they attempted to report the incident to school administrators, Mafoe followed them and continued arguing with them.
Some students also allege that racially offensive language was used during the confrontation, though these claims have not yet been independently verified by school officials.
Students Say Administrators Failed to De-Escalate
Students involved in the incident say they attempted to report the situation to Assistant Principals Dr. Laura Robles and Ms. Gemma Kiyuna.
According to those students, the administrators instructed them to return to class while the dispute was still ongoing.
Parents say the failure to immediately separate those involved may have allowed the situation to escalate further.
Allegations Involving Student Latu’u Marley Semi Mafoe
Students say that during the confrontation, Mafoe stated he would contact his daughter.
According to students present, Latu’u Marley Semi Mafoe, 18, later arrived and followed the group of students as they attempted to leave the area.
Students claim the confrontation later continued near the school parking lot, where video recordings circulating among students appear to show additional verbal exchanges before a physical fight broke out involving multiple students.
The authenticity and full context of the videos have not yet been officially confirmed.
Community Advocate Calls for Termination
Civil rights activist Najee Ali, director of Project Islamic Hope, said the video circulating online appears to show the staff member using offensive language toward the students.
“Carson High School staff member and football coach Daniel Mafoe should be ashamed of himself,” Ali said in a statement. “A school employee should be working to protect students and prevent violence, not escalate situations involving young people.”
Ali called on Los Angeles Unified School District officials to conduct a full investigation and determine whether disciplinary action is appropriate.
Tensions Reportedly Continued on Campus
Parents say the original incident triggered broader tensions between students, which allegedly resulted in additional conflicts on campus the following day.
According to parents and students:
• Multiple students were injured
• One student was reportedly arrested
• Some students now say they feel unsafe returning to campus
School officials have not publicly confirmed details of those incidents.
Additional Concerns Raised by Family
Parents have also raised questions about an unrelated incident involving a welfare check conducted by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies at the home of student Za’Nye Brown.
According to the family, deputies arrived after a report was made claiming the student had threatened self-harm.
The family says the report was inaccurate and that the student never made such a statement. Authorities have not publicly commented on the circumstances surrounding the call.
Calls For Investigation
Parents and community advocates are now calling for:
• An investigation into the conduct of staff member Daniel Mafoe
• A review of the involvement of students in the altercation
• An administrative review of Assistant Principals Robles and Kiyuna
• An independent investigation by the Los Angeles Unified School District
Several families say they are considering legal action and filing formal complaints.
The Los Angeles Unified School District has not yet publicly commented on the allegations described in this report.
Community members say they hope district leadership will address the situation quickly to restore safety and trust at Carson High School.
