*For music-industry veteran Calvin Spann, success isn’t measured solely in chart positions or platinum plaques—it’s rooted in reputation, relationships, and a legacy shaped by integrity.
As the head of CS Entertainment Group, Spann brings more than fifteen years of experience guiding artists across mainstream and inspirational music. His résumé includes work connected to names such as Justin Bieber, Rick Ross, The-Dream, NE-YO, Israel Houghton, Travis Greene, Joy Winans, and the “Hope Dealer” himself, MAJOR.
What distinguishes Spann isn’t just who he has worked with—it’s how he approaches his work.
“I want my name to be remembered more as a feeling,” he says. “When people hear my name, I want them to think, ‘He was a stand-up guy. He did what he could.’ People may forget what you did, but they remember the feeling.”

That philosophy traces back to his father, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen, whose discipline and determination shaped Spann’s worldview.
“He just wanted to fly airplanes. When he was told he couldn’t, that was enough—he went out and did it anyway,” he recalls. “As Black men, we’ve always had to be twice as good and buttoned up to get the same recognition. My father taught me to ‘straighten up and fly right.’”
Spann’s path into music began early. Growing up in Englewood, New Jersey, he lived on the same block where DJ Kid Capri later moved, and seeing the tour bus outside sparked his curiosity. One day, he rang Capri’s doorbell—a bold move that led to early exposure to beat-making and studio sessions.
That early hands-on experience fueled his interest in the business side of music and eventually pushed him toward an internship at Def Jam Records, where he learned the structure behind the artistry.

A move to Dallas expanded his skill set. Working in radio promotions with mentor Kevin “Chico” Gibbs, Spann coordinated appearances, meet-and-greets, and store signings for artists including Ameriie, Kristinia DeBarge, and Jeremih. The hands-on experience taught him how to connect talent with audiences in real time.
Next came a pivotal chapter when he joined NE-YO’s management team, working closely with both NE-YO and Adrienne Bailon during her rise in daytime television.
“That experience gave me a deeper understanding of management, logistics, and creative coordination,” he says. “It made me want to build something of my own.”
That vision became CS Entertainment Group, a company rooted in craft, clarity, and consistent execution. For Spann, the process of developing a project is equal parts structure and openness.
“You’ve got to have a plan,” he explains, “but you also have to leave the door open for a little bit of God to come in. If you’re too rigid, you can miss the magic.”

Whether overseeing cover art, collaborations, marketing strategy, or the release rollout, Spann stays involved in every step.
“Once the project is submitted and you have a release date, that’s when the real work begins—promo, visuals, interviews, marketing,” he says. “You hope it resonates with people. And if it goes platinum, even better.”
His core belief has remained simple: reputation is currency.
“This business is small. Everyone knows each other—labels, managers, media, artists. Your reputation precedes you.”
To the next generation, his advice is straightforward.
“There are no shortcuts. It’s hard work, focus, and consistency,” he says. “Consistency means showing up whether you’re up or down. If you’re honest with yourself, you’ll know when you’re slipping—and you’ll correct it before someone else has to tell you.”
With new projects under Grammy consideration and a live album release on the horizon, Spann shows no signs of slowing down. His story is still being written—rooted in integrity, driven by purpose, and defined by the feeling he hopes people carry when they hear his name.
