*Rapper Boosie Badazz entered a guilty plea Tuesday to a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, connected to a 2023 arrest in San Diego.
As NBC San Diego reports, the rapper, born Torence Ivy Hatch Jr., was taken into custody in May 2023 after police discovered two guns in a vehicle he was riding in. The outspoken artist was identified in a social media video with a firearm tucked into his waistband. A police helicopter later tracked his vehicle, leading officers to conduct a traffic stop where the weapons were found.
Earlier this month, Boosie acknowledged his plans to plead guilty in a post on X. “Just accepted a plea from the federal government on my gun case,” he wrote on Aug. 4.
“I thought this case was over n I was going to get on with my life but ‘God don’t make mistakes’ n im tired of fighting?? Talked to my family n this is the right decision?? To all my fans across the world, say a prayer for ya boy n go get the new album,” the hip-hop star added.
He previously reached out to President Donald Trump, asking him to review his gun case. Boosie took to social media to address his legal situation, writing: “Trump CHECK MY CASE OUT MY CASE WAS DISMISSED BUT BIDENS DOJ RECHARGED ME WITH THE SAME GUN CHARGE BIDEN PARDON HIS SON OF .I WAS TOLD I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN THE COUNTRY FACING THAT CHARGE NOW,” Boosie wrote. “PRESIDENT TRUMP , I ALREADY WAS GIVEN A 10 YEAR SENTENCE N STATE N 2009 FOR 3 rd offense MARIJUANA ( grams ,grams, grams ) I NEVER WAS EVEN OFFERED REHAB STRAIGHT TO PRISON.

He added, “N TRUMP IM BOOSIE IM A RAPPER/ FILMMAKER FROM BATON ROUGE .I WAS TARGETED.. MY MOUTH N THINGS I STAND ON GET ME N ALOT SHIT BUT IM REAL! My lawyer MEGHAN BLANCO can explain this case. She knew the charges n against you were bad she even spoke about it on radio.”
Boosie was first charged by the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, with his attorneys indicating he was prepared to accept probation in a state plea deal. However, the case was dismissed before sentencing and later taken up by federal prosecutors.
U.S. District Judge Cathy Bencivengo, who will sentence Boosie Badazz in November, initially dismissed the charges after a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling questioned firearm restrictions on nonviolent drug offenders. The court later reversed itself, upholding the ban, which allowed federal prosecutors to re-file the case.
Boosie’s prior record includes a Louisiana conviction for marijuana possession. He was also acquitted in 2012 by a Baton Rouge jury in a murder-for-hire case.
