*At the 2025 Grammy Awards Sunday, an awkward moment unfolded when two Associated Press reporters, Krysta Fauria and Leslie Ambriz, cut short their interview with legendary producer and songwriter Babyface to speak with singer Chappell Roan instead.
The exchange, which aired on AP’s YouTube livestream, quickly went viral on social media. In the clip, Babyface graciously stepped aside after the reporters noticed Roan, while Ambriz apologized before handing over the microphone to the artist.
“You guys wanna take that?” asked Babyface before the reporters nodded. “Go take that.”
“I’m so sorry, Babyface. I’m so sorry,” said Ambriz while taking his microphone to give it to Roan for a brief interview.
Ambriz and Fauria acknowledged snubbing Babyface after wrapping up with Roan. “It was fast. It was all at once,” she said.
Ummm.. @AP who in the absolute hell are these interviewers???? Treating THEE Babyface as if he’s some sort of random person off the street?! Wow.. Pathetic… pic.twitter.com/LXlpRua820

“And you know that’s the carpet. That’s the nature of the carpet, things move fast,” Ambriz added. “I do still wanna hear that answer from Babyface, so hopefully he circles back around or I’ll just have to wait till I interview him again.”
Many social media users pointed out that the incident highlighted the importance of having diverse reporters in media.
One X user wrote, “waving off Babyface for Chappell Roan is why hiring diverse reporters is important. not just diverse hair colors, but people colors.”
“This is so rude. These AP reporters cut off Babyface, a 13-time Grammy winner, mid-interview to grab an interview with Chappell Roan. I understand the desire to interview Chappell, but the way they did this was horrible.,” another posted.
A third person commented, “WTF? This is so disrespectful. Interrupting him while he’s answering a question to call another artist over and then just moving him out the way? BABYFACE?? IKYFL.”
In another video from later on during the awards show, Fauria, standing with Ambriz and AP reporter Gary Gerard Hamilton, apologized to viewers for the dissing Babyface, a 13-time Grammy winner.
“I wanted to say that I’m really sorry about interrupting Babyface earlier. Chappell Roan had come up, and there was a lot of commotion as there is on these carpets. But I’m a big Babyface fan and as are we all, and so I just wanted to say that I really apologize,” Fauria said.
