*Diamond Stone and Michael D’Angelo Archer, children of the late R&B icon Angie Stone, have filed a lawsuit in Gwinnett County, Atlanta, targeting the drivers, a trucking company, and a truck manufacturer involved in their mother’s fatal March 2025 crash in Alabama.
Page Six reports that court documents obtained by WSB-TV reveal that Stone, 63, initially survived when the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van carrying her and her entourage flipped after the driver lost control. While passersby rescued five of the nine passengers, Stone was still exiting the van when a tractor-trailer loaded with sugar struck it, ejecting her and pinning her underneath, leading to her death. The lawsuit claims Stone “consciously suffered” while trapped.
The legal action alleges the tractor-trailer driver “was not paying proper attention to the roadway ahead of him” and that the vehicle’s collision mitigation system failed. Stone was returning home after performing in Mobile, Alabama.
Stone was mourned at a March 14 memorial at Atlanta’s Word of Faith Cathedral. Tyler Perry delivered a fiery eulogy, condemning the music industry’s failure to compensate Stone fairly.
“Y’all got to forgive me because I’m angry at the way she was treated. I did not know all the things that she was going through [until] recently,” he said, noting her claims of unpaid royalties.
He added, “All of those years, all of those songs, all of that money that was owed to her — where is it? It’s wrong, this is wrong, and I’m tired of seeing us struggle and go through things and work hard and not reap the benefits of what we were supposed to reap.”
Stone had previously stated, “I should have been able to retire 20 years ago with the money I’ve made.”
The memorial featured stirring performances by Kirk Franklin, Anthony Hamilton, Tamela Mann, and Keke Wyatt, whose 10-minute rendition of “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” deeply moved attendees, honoring Stone’s lasting musical legacy.
