
*The 8th American Black Film Festival Honors has revealed that Angela Bassett will be recognized with the Excellence in the Arts Award. The 2026 ABFF Honors, presented by NICE CROWD, takes place Monday, February 16, at the SLS hotel in Beverly Hills, California. This intimate, non-televised dinner will gather ABFF honorees alongside festival partners.
The Excellence in the Arts Award celebrates a distinguished artist for their comprehensive body of work and notable career accomplishments. Additional honorees for the evening include Dwayne Johnson receiving the Entertainment Icon Award, Jennifer Hudson being presented with the Renaissance Award for her work on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” director Salli Richardson-Whitfield accepting the Evolution Award, and actor Damson Idris earning the Horizon Award.
ABFF Honors will also recognize the creative team behind “Sinners,” the cinematic work from filmmakers Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian, featuring Michael B. Jordan. New York Times best-selling author and comedian KevOnStage will host the ceremony.

Per the news release, NICE CROWD CEO and President Jeff Friday and Nicole Friday stated, “Angela Bassett is the embodiment of excellence. Her body of work is both extraordinary and enduring, defined by performances that are fearless, powerful, and deeply human. She has set a standard for artistic integrity and cultural impact that continues to inspire generations, and we are honored to celebrate her remarkable career with the Excellence in the Arts Award.”
Bassett is an Honorary Oscar recipient and Emmy Award–winning actress, director, and executive producer whose decades-long career includes transformative performances. Her filmography encompasses “Malcolm X,” “Waiting to Exhale,” “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It”—earning her an Academy Award nomination—”Black Panther,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” “Damsel,” and “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.”
Her portrayal of Queen Ramonda in “Wakanda Forever” garnered Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards, plus Academy Award, SAG, and BAFTA nominations, along with the Variety Creative Impact in Acting Award. Bassett won her first Emmy for Outstanding Narrator for the NatGeo series “Queens.”
