*Angela Bassett earned the top spot on AARP’s Movies for Grownups list of the 25 Most Fabulous Women Over 50, and she’s sharing her thoughts on aging, positivity, and embracing life.
“I don’t allow age to impose some limit on me. Half the time I forget how old I am,” Bassett, 67, told the outlet, per PEOPLE. She added, “Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, keep loving life, embracing it. And just know that the best is yet to come. You can do anything you put your mind to.”
Bassett credits her love for acting as a key source of energy and vitality. “They say if you love what you do, you never work a day. I’m absolutely still loving what I do. It’s keeping me vibrant and out there,” she said. “But also I think a great part of it is your attitude. Just your attitude, how you look at life. And I have a very positive one.”

The AARP list also highlights stars such as Naomi Watts, June Squibb, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Andie MacDowell. “We created this list to spotlight women who are not just excelling in Hollywood, they are redefining it,” Alison Maxwell, senior executive editor of AARP.org, said.
“These powerhouse talents continue to take creative risks, deliver unforgettable performances and are showing the world that growing older is not something to hide, it’s something to embrace. Their influence, resilience and artistry prove that success and cultural impact don’t have an expiration date. They are proving that age is not a limitation, it’s a power,” Maxwell added.
Bassett has long challenged conventional comments about age and appearance. In 2022, she noted that “You look good for your age” is not really a compliment, explaining, “When we take care of ourselves, we do look good for our age, whatever age that is, you know?”
She has also shared humorous moments responding to age-related remarks, like jokingly telling a woman who called her youthful, “‘Hearing that is a wonderful thing—seeing as I’m 80!’” Throughout her career, Bassett has remained mindful of her image, particularly after portraying iconic figures such as Rosa Parks, Betty Shabazz, Tina Turner, and Ramonda in “Black Panther.”
Earlier this year, Bassett reflected on the lessons aging has taught her. “One of the beautiful byproducts of aging is the wisdom that comes along with it and the experiences that you’ve had that have made you stronger but not done you in,” she told Woman’s World.
