*Sheinelle Jones, beloved co-host of the third hour of NBC’s TODAY Show, has announced that she is taking a temporary leave from the program to address a “family health matter.”
In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, which was later read on-air by co-host Savannah Guthrie, Jones expressed her gratitude for the support she has received during this challenging time.
“Hi everybody… I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” Jones wrote. “I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter. It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today Show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon. Love, Sheinelle ❤️”
Sheinelle Jones, who joined NBC News in 2014, has become a recognizable face on the TODAY Show since co-hosting the third hour starting in January 2019. Her absence has been deeply felt among both her colleagues and her loyal viewers.

Savannah Guthrie acknowledged the outpouring of concern from fans, stating, “We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle and missing her, and we miss her, too.”
“Sheinelle, we all love you, and we are so looking forward to having you back.” The supportive community at TODAY has shown solidarity with Sheinelle, with co-host Jenna Bush Hager commenting on her Instagram post: “You are a queen and are LOVED beyond measure! Wrapping our arms around you, always ❤️,” said Craig Melvin.
Sheinelle was born on April 19, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has built a successful career in journalism, earning a degree in broadcast journalism from Northwestern University. Her path in media began early with internships and eventually led her to significant roles at various television stations, culminating in her current position at NBC News.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jones balances her career with her family life. Married to Uche Ojeh since 2007, the couple shares three children: sons Kayin and Uche, and daughter Clara. Sheinelle’s dedication to both her family and her work is evident, and her recent leave underscores her commitment to prioritizing family needs.
This isn’t the first time Sheinelle Jones has faced health-related challenges. In February 2020, she underwent surgery to remove lesions from her vocal cords, requiring her to take six weeks away from her broadcasting duties.
As fans and colleagues await her return, the warmth and support she has received highlight the strong community within the TODAY Show family. While she navigates her family health matter, viewers can take comfort in knowing that she will be back soon, bringing her engaging spirit and insightful reporting back to morning television.
