*Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) announced it is moving its headquarters to Texas. Soon after the announcement, KFC was on the receiving end as its displeased customers poured in their displeasure.
Hours after KFC’s parent company, Yum! Brands, Inc., went public on the relocation from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas, online commenters coined the name “Texas Fried Chicken,” which trended on X (formerly Twitter).
An irritated X user commented, “Tf??? Texas Fried Chicken don’t even sound right. The colonel is rolling in his grave.”
KFC was founded by the late Colonel Harland David Sanders. As of Tuesday, when the announcement came out, KFC had 114 locations in Kentucky, including 21 in Louisville. “Are they changing the name to Texas Fried Chicken TFC?” asked another commenter.
“This city should do everything in its power to become a business-friendly city. However, if KFC doesn’t give a crap about us I don’t know why we should reciprocate. Call it Texas Fried Chicken and make it official,” posted Louisville Metro Councilman Anthony Piagentini on X.
Apart from the relocation announcement on Tuesday, Yum! Brands, Inc. also stated that it planned to move about 100 KFC corporate office employees currently working in Louisville to the new KFC and Pizza Hut Global headquarters in Plano. The announcement further stated the employees would get relocation aid over the six months of the process.
“These changes position us for sustainable growth and will help us better serve our customers, employees, franchisees, and shareholders,” said Yum! Brands CEO David Gibbs in a statement. “Ultimately, bringing more of our people together consistently will maximize our unrivaled culture and talent as a competitive advantage. I’m confident this is another important step in growing our iconic restaurant brands globally.”
