*Eating challenges in the U.S. has become a popular form of entertainment and a unique aspect of competitive eating culture.

The challenges involve consuming large quantities of food within a set time limit. These can range from local diner specials to well-publicized events broadcast on TV. In the challenges, gluttonous eating is often paired with extreme spice levels or massive portions of food to test contestants’ endurance and resilience

The contests attract amateurs and professional eaters, all striving to finish enormous meals within set time limits. Winners typically earn free meals, recognition, or prizes, while those who fail leave with unfinished plates.
