Twin Survivor Describes Sister’s Fatal Stabbing by Angry NYC Man Following Rejection

*Samyia Spain tragically lost her life after being stabbed outside a deli in Brooklyn, NY, when a “drunk” male attacked her for refusing to follow him on Instagram.

The event unfolded in the presence of her twin sister, Sanyia, on March 17. Sanyia, in an attempt to shield her sister, was also stabbed in the arm. Now, she bravely speaks out about the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.

According to Sanyia, she, her sister, and their brother were on their way to a nearby bodega at approximately 2:20 AM when they spotted a young man from a party earlier in the day trailing Samyia, the Daily News reports.

“I grabbed her phone and I was like, ‘Come with me, come with me,’” Sanyia explained to the news outlet. “I was like, ‘Why are you talking to that boy?’ She said, ‘I don’t want to talk to that boy.’”

Sanyia devised a plan to deter the assailant. She recounted that her sister chose to provide the individual with her Instagram handle yet declined to follow him back.

“She said she wasn’t going to follow him back,” Sanyia continued. “That’s it. She said no.”

That’s when the unidentified assailant became furious and argumentative inside the deli.

“He pushed little Samyia, and then I pushed him,” she explained. “And then everybody else started pushing him out the door.”

According to Sanyia, a store employee ejected the intoxicated male and his companions from the premises before locking the door. However, upon exiting after purchasing their snacks, he was waiting for the girls, and they couldn’t seek refuge inside the store.

“He had a knife in his hand and was saying, ‘I’m gonna stab y’all in the face,’” Sanyia recounted. “I’m telling everyone to back up.”

When he “pushed little Samyia to the ground,” she dropped her phone. Their older brother intervened, triggering a brawl.

“As I was going to grab [Samyia’s phone], he stabbed me in my arm,” said Sanyia.

“Samyia then asked him to give her the phone back, and he stabbed her in the neck. She said, ‘I’m about to faint.’ As soon as she said, ‘I’m about to faint,’ I called 911,” the sister added.

Samyia was stabbed in the chest and neck and was transported to the New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where she died.

According to the Daily News, no arrests have been made. The police are seeking two individuals who were captured on video, one of whom was wearing a ski mask.

Samyia’s family created a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses here.
