Trump Disses Detroit While Addressing Business Leaders as Election Day Approaches | WATCH

*In full MAGA/a-hole mode, former President Donald Trump stirred controversy on Thursday during a speech to business leaders in Detroit, where he made disparaging remarks about the city and its current economic situation.

Speaking at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump painted a bleak picture of what America could become under the leadership of his political opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

“You want to know the truth?” Trump said, suggesting that if Harris were to become president, the entire country would descend into chaos, comparing the nation to Detroit’s past struggles. “It’ll be like Detroit. Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president. You’re gonna have a mess on your hands.”

Trump’s comments, while stirring applause from some attendees, were met with backlash from several local officials and residents who take pride in the city’s recovery and resilience, the Daily Beast reported.

Michigan Democratic Representative Shri Thanedar quickly took to social media to rebut Trump’s claims.

“I represent Detroit in Congress,” he posted on X. “Detroit is a city with a booming economy, diverse culture, and some of the best people in America. Donald Trump: keep Detroit and our people out of your mouth. We will elect Kamala Harris.”

The apparent dismissal of Detroit’s progress was shocking to some, especially given the context of a crucial election season where Michigan is viewed as a significant battleground. With Harris currently holding a slim lead over Trump in the polls, his choice to insult a key urban area could carry significant political risks.

In his speech, Trump sought to position himself as the savior of Detroit, asserting that he would ensure the U.S. enacts better trade deals to curb the influence of large corporations. He adopted aggressive rhetoric, claiming, “We allowed them to come in and raid and rape our country,” emphasizing the urgency of reforming economic policies to benefit American citizens. The choice of language raised eyebrows, drawing attention to the intensity of his populist approach.

Trump’s remarks are part of a broader strategy as he attempts to regain ground in a state that swung from supporting him in 2016 to backing Biden in 2020. Detroit, historically a Democratic stronghold, has faced economic challenges over the years, but reviving communities and business growth have marked recent years, making Trump’s comments particularly contentious.

This week’s statements will likely play into the ongoing narrative as the election approaches. Trump is known for leveraging provocative rhetoric to rally his base, and this instance is no exception, particularly as Michigan’s Great Lakes region remains a crucial component of the “blue wall” that Democrats aim to maintain.

As the race between Trump and Harris intensifies, both candidates are aware of the stakes in Michigan, a state pivotal to their paths to the White House. With discussions centering around issues of economic revival, race relations, and national policy, Trump’s comments reflect a strategic effort to connect with voters in a rapidly changing political landscape.

As the situation unfolds, the reactions to Trump’s remarks will shape the ongoing narrative leading to Election Day, where residents of Detroit and beyond will have the opportunity to express their views through the ballot box.
