*Mark Kaye, the Jackson, Fla.-based radio station host responsible for unleashing AI-generated pictures of former president Donald Trump with Black “supporters” has been “fired.” News of the parting came via News4Jax, which received word of the development from Cox Media.

The company terminated Kaye before he was thrust into the spotlight with the controversial image, which is striking a nerve with voters who are familiar with efforts from the two major political parties to attract African American ballot caster.

“There are polls where a record number of African Americans are responding to pollsters that they’re interested in supporting President Trump. Does President Biden still hold the advantage? Yes,” Conrath, a political science teacher at Florida State College of Jacksonville, told News4JAX

The outlet added that Cox Media released Kaye before his connection to the AI photo of Trump. Although he denied News4JAX’s request for a statement, Kaye did speak to the BBC about his situation, saying, “I’m not a photojournalist…I’m not out here taking pictures of what’s happening. I’m a storyteller.”

“I’m not claiming it is accurate,” he continued. “I’m not saying, ‘Hey, look, Donald Trump was at this party with all of these African American voters. Look how much they love him!’ If anybody’s voting one way or another because of one photo they see on a Facebook page, that’s a problem with that person, not with the post itself.”

The image of Trump merrily getting along with Black voters, though fake, has struck a nerve. Noting how real the picture looks, News4JAX noted that a true or false pic can be determined from, “looking at the hands and fingers of a person in the photo. Look at the perfect lighting on all the faces in what appears to be a party setting.”

AI-generated content meant to deceive voters is a point of concern, a local official that’s part of a Department of Homeland Security Task Force on election integrity noted, with the presidential election cycle officially underway with President Joe Biden and Trump becoming their respective parties’ presidential nominees.
