*Sade has released her first single in six years and the track “Young Lion” appears on Red Hot Organization’s trans-inclusive compilation EP “Transa: Selects”
The single, released on Friday (October 25), is an apology ballad to the singer’s transgender son Izaak Adu, and features lyrics asking her son for forgiveness. Per The Independent, she sings: “Young man, it’s been so heavy for you /You must have felt so alone/ The anguish and pain/ I should’ve known.
“With such a heavy burden/ You had to carry all on your own/ Forgive me, son/ I should’ve known.”

We reported in 2019 that Izaak Theo Adu turned to social media to document his transition from female to male, thanking his famous mother for her unwavering support throughout the journey.
“It’s been a long hard road but We did it!! We are coming home!!!!” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “Thank you for staying by my side these past 6 months Mumma. Thank you for fighting with me to complete the man I am. Thank you for your encouragement when things are hard, for the love you give me. The purest heart. I love you so much. Queen of queens.”
Izaak first went public with his journey in 2016, when he started taking hormonal shots, saying it was “the first day of the rest of my life.”
Adu, who is Sade’s only child, reacted to his mother’s new song, telling Rolling Stone: “Though there was nothing I needed to forgive her for, the lyrics ‘Forgive me, son, I should have known,’ struck a chord.
“My mum never tried to oppress the boy I silently always knew I was. She always let me be me,” added Adu.
