*A mother (Lakesha Woods Williams) accused of leaving her young children home alone for a week to go on a cruise remains in hot water.

KHOU 11 reports a $25,000 bond issued by the judge in the case was recently upheld on April 15. The site further detailed the judge’s thoughts on the case, which centered on Williams, a 29-year-old Houston, TX mother of two.

According to court records, Williams is charged with child abandonment with intent to return after leaving her 6 and 8-year-old children home alone for nearly a week. Although deputies attempted to contact Williams, court records go on to state the matriarch was not cooperating and kept changing her whereabouts.

Child Protective Services was also called about the situation as well as the Houston Fire Department. The fire department was called to make sure the children were not injured or malnourished, KHOU noted while citing court record which revealed the children were released to the custody of their aunt.

The judge’s decision to uphold the bond comes days after Williams received it when she appeared in court on April 12. The mother was arrested on April 11.

Deflecting who is to blame, Williams’ defense attorney mentioned that although his client paid her cousin to watch the kids, he took off with the money. As a result, Williams’ children were left alone.

“You left your child unattended for four days. Let’s say you leave the country out on a trip, and the cousin doesn’t go to take care of the children. If this is really a plane flight like she says it is, wouldn’t you as a parent be on the first plane back immediately?” Assistant District Attorney Keegan Childers asked.

On April 9, police conducted a welfare check after getting word from a witness that neighbors in a luxury high-rise apartment complex on Katy Freeway voiced concern about the children’s safety from being home alone, according to court documents.

Williams was seen by neighbors on April 4, leaving with luggage around noon. KHOU went on to mention that no one ever saw Williams’ return.

Upon finding the children, a boy and girl, inside the Memorial City-area apartment, court records referenced comments from officers, which labeled the scene as being in “disarray.” In addition, authorities stated that trash and leftover food were all over the apartment, which smelled like urine.

Speaking with the officers, the children revealed their mother left for a cruise on April 4 and had no knowledge of when she would return.

In addition, court records reveal the officers found a camera in Williams’ apartment that she used to watch the children and talk to her kids while she was away. Her 8-year-old son possessed a phone he used to text his mom while she was gone,
