*Mo’Nique turned to social media to express gratitude to fans who advised her to get her thyroid examined due to her noticeable neck swelling.
As LipStick Alley reports, Mo confessed in a video statement that she initially dismissed the concerns, attributing her bulging neck to simply having a “fat neck.” However, she eventually heeded the advice and visited a doctor and learned that there was indeed an issue with her thyroid.
The Oscar-winning actress and comedian said, “For the people who kept bringing it to my attention, I want to say thank you.”
The thyroid condition seems to have affected her voice, as numerous fans observed that she sounded different in the video. Some even speculated that AI might have generated her voice.
In the Instagram clip below, Mo urges other women not to postpone seeking medical attention when they feel unwell.

“So please…take it from me – don’t put it off. Don’t neglect what you know you need to go get dealt with,” she said.
“For the ones who kept pointing it out. thank you, my sweet babies. thank you for caring enough to say, ‘auntie, your neck is fat,’” Mo’Nique added.
Per the Mayo Clinic: “Hypothyroidism happens when the thyroid gland doesn’t make enough thyroid hormone. This condition also is called underactive thyroid. Hypothyroidism may not cause noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Over time, hypothyroidism that isn’t treated can lead to other health problems, such as high cholesterol and heart problems. Blood tests are used to diagnose hypothyroidism.”
Hypothyroidism symptoms may include:
- Tiredness.
- More sensitivity to cold.
- Constipation.
- Dry skin.
- Weight gain.
- Puffy face.
- Hoarse voice.
- Coarse hair and skin.
- Muscle weakness.
- Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness.
- Menstrual cycles that are heavier than usual or irregular.
- Thinning hair.
- Slowed heart rate, also called bradycardia.
- Depression.
- Memory problems.
